Kiki Momo is the hardest brand in our catalogue to find and the easiest to explain. It is rolled in Estelí, Nicaragua. Every cigar costs the same, ten dollars, regardless of size or wrapper. And Cigar Inc. is the exclusive distributor in California, Nevada and Georgia, which means that for most of the country it is not a question of price but of access.

Who makes Kiki Momo

The brand is owned by Keith Moskowitz, and the Kiki Momo trademark was filed in October 2021. The company's own account describes a love of cigars beginning at the age of twelve in the early 1970s. The cigars are described as an Estelí Nicaraguan proprietary blend.

Estelí is the centre of the modern premium cigar industry. It is where most of the Nicaraguan leaf that matters is grown and where a large share of the world's handmade cigars are rolled, and it is the same city behind Plasencia, Espinosa and La Aroma de Cuba.

What the brand does not publish

We would rather be straight about this than pad the page. Kiki Momo does not publish a founding year, a factory name, a manufacturer, a master blender, or a wrapper, binder and filler breakdown for any cigar in the range. There is no trade press coverage of the brand in Cigar Aficionado, Cigar Journal, halfwheel or Cigar Snob.

What is verifiable is the origin, Estelí, and the range itself, which we handle in volume.

The wrappers

Kiki Momo is organised by wrapper more than by line, and there are six in circulation:

• Connecticut — the pale, mild end. See the wider Connecticut range
• Connecticut Goma Dulce — a sweetened cap version of the Connecticut
• Maduro — the dark, sweeter end. See our maduro cigars
• Habano — the middle ground, with more spice. See Habano
• Tannery-Habano blend — a house combination unique to the brand
• Doble Capa — literally double wrapper, a barber pole style

Because the price does not change with the wrapper, working through all six is genuinely affordable, which is not true of most brands.

The maduro side, and the cap

The shapes and the KMC codes

The shape names run: Patriot, Toro, Gordo, Super Gordo, Maximo, Sublime, Aleta, The Noble, Torpedo, Belicoso and Solomoncito. Several are finished with a pigtail cap, the twisted point of wrapper left at the head, and some are shaggy footed, meaning the foot is left unfinished with loose filler showing.

Every cigar also carries a KMC code, as in KMC187 or KMC072. It is a stock number rather than a blend designation, and it is how you tell two similar looking cigars apart when the shape and wrapper are the same. If you are reordering something you liked, the KMC number is the thing to write down.

The flat ten dollar price

Almost every cigar brand prices by size, because a 7 by 70 uses roughly three times the tobacco of a 4 by 42. Kiki Momo does not. Every cigar in the range is ten dollars.

That has one very practical consequence: the large formats are the value buy. A Super Gordo at 6.5 by 70 contains a great deal more tobacco than a Toro and costs exactly the same. If you smoke big cigars, this is the best per inch value we sell.

What we notice first-hand

Kiki Momo is a cigar we sell on the counter rather than on the page, and that is the honest position. People come in for something else, we hand them one, and they come back for a box.

The pigtail and shaggy foot construction is worth mentioning because it is not decorative. A shaggy foot lights instantly and gives you a genuinely different first inch, closer to the pure filler flavour before the wrapper joins in. It is a good way to learn what a wrapper actually contributes, and at ten dollars it is a cheap lesson.

The Maduro shapes are the ones that move fastest here. If you are ordering blind, the Sublime Shaggy Maduro or the Gordo Maduro are the safest choices.

And a note on availability. Because distribution is limited to three states, our stock is the stock. When a KMC code sells through it may not return in the same configuration, so if you find one you like, buy more than one.

The bottom line

Kiki Momo is an Estelí cigar at a flat ten dollars that most of the country cannot buy. Start with a Connecticut if you want mild or a Maduro if you want sweet and dark, take a large ring gauge because the price does not change, and note the KMC code of anything you want again.
